TEXT

Rengin Saltık's exhibition is indeed an imaginary library formed of the quotations which were collected throughout the years by the painter herself. Mystical codes, political sermons, lyrical poems, early modern utopia with contemporary dystopia -all of which stem from various sources, and surely are all remembered by anyone who is a reader, are reflected on Saltık's canvas. In parallel to the wide array of quotations, various stages are set for each work : inscriptions, diary, graffity, Gotic hand writing, maps, even play cards. Although her art is far distanced from ornamentation, it is a form of generously illustrative, straightforward and an unselfish art.

Rengin Saltık received her bachelor’s degree from the Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of City and Regional Planning in Ankara and her master’s degree in the same field at the Ohio State University, USA.

She started her painting studies at Kay›han Keskinok Atelier in 1991, and attended Halil Akdeniz Masters’ Atelier at Bilkent University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, as a special student. Currently, she works at her atelier in Ankara.
