INSTALLATION

TEXT

After graduating from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Gül Ilgaz continued her education by participating in various activities abroad. The artist participated in international exhibitions in Brussels, Milan, London, Paris, Toulouse, Taskent, Toronto, Utrecht, Sofia, Ljubliana, Skopje and Hang Zhou. She took part in the 'In Limbo' exhibition.

In Gül Ilgaz's works, her own experiences and emotional states form the starting point. The fact that those who come out of their own experiences can meet with the audience on a certain common ground is the biggest factor that motivates the artist. Multilayeredness, auto-biographical elements, identity, body, and occasionally art-historical references are seen in his works.

The items she chooses in her photo-installations make the viewer question the meaning of each object. The fabric folds he used to create the space appear as an almost organic extension of the works.

In the exhibition he prepared for the Milli Reasürans Art Gallery, the image of the cloud, which seems to exist in the past works of the artist, appears here as the exhibition title. Although he only uses clouds to create a certain atmosphere, in this exhibition, the concept of partly cloudy refers to the post-modernist situation with the fragmentation of life itself in relation to the situation of being neither that nor that. Gül Ilgaz's first solo exhibition, which has auto-biographical features, displays a dream-like narrative and is full of the poetry of life, can be viewed at Milli Reasürans Art Gallery between 08 September and 03 October 2009. In addition, an exhibition catalog was prepared in two languages, Turkish and English.
