"FOOTSTEPS OF EMPTINESS"

The exhibition titled "Footsteps of Emptiness / Filiz Tokcan Painting Exhibition" will be available for viewing in Paris and Istanbul at short intervals. Sketch samples of the works will be exhibited at La Petite Galerie in Paris in January 2007, followed by canvas paintings at the Milli Reasürans Art Gallery in Istanbul in February 2007.

Filiz Tokcan, who prepares her exhibitions with thematic integrity, used interior spaces in her previous exhibition held at the Milli Reasürans Art Gallery, while in "Footsteps of Emptiness," she chooses coastal areas instead of interior spaces.

Empty beaches giving the impression of absence of people but signs of their presence and departure, sunbeds, umbrellas, a couple of boats tied to the pier, piers... Almost all of them stand in the light of sunset. This gentle light accompanying the feeling of emptiness of the sunset will eventually turn into the color of the night; emptiness will gradually become the ancient sibling of darkness, the unknown, and silence.

In this exhibition, Filiz Tokcan stands at the intersection of existence and absence. In this last transition zone of the existing, with an extremely simple perception of object-nature, she emphasizes the end, the final phase of the object.

The exhibition can be viewed at the Milli Reasürans Art Gallery from February 14th to March 3rd, 2007.
