Tiraje Dikmen paintings at Millî Reasurans Art Gallery
A Tiraje Dikmen painting exhibition will run at the Millî Reasurans Art Gallery until February 11 1996. In 1946 Dikmen was one of the young apprentice painters under the tutelage of Leopold-Levy, like Nejad Devrim, Nuri İyem, Selim Turan and Fethi Karakas. Her scholarship to study in Paris, granted by the French government in 1949, played a decisive role in her artistic career. In the drawings she did before going to Paris, Tiraje's approach was quite different from that adopted by every other Academy student, as her perception of objects was three-dimensional and in her work with figures, her interpretation of the totality of her forms was particularly conspicuous. In Paris her work continued to focus on drawing the most important subject, the external world, that she "sought to surround and alter". The subjects and themes of Dikmen's paintings are influenced by her remem- brances of selected events that she observed, on a general plane. The artist organizes her subjects according to these recollected images and impressions in an "improvisational" process that she has favored throughout her entire artistic career.
