From the Streets

Şakir Eczacıbaşı, who has been observing houses, markets, flower shops, bagel vendors, and in short, street life through his lens for nearly 35 years, presents his photography exhibition "From the Streets" at the Millî Reasürans Art Gallery between May 26 and June 22, 1996.

Part of the Habitat II City Summit, the exhibition will bring viewers face-to-face with "moments" captured on the streets, showcasing the dynamism of street life. The hustle and bustle of talking people, the joy of meeting friends, the impatience of those waiting at bus stops, and the weariness of bus passengers will all be presented together in this exhibition.

Şakir Eczacıbaşı, who also served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Culture and Arts Foundation and was awarded the French "Knight of Arts and Letters" in 1996, has been immersed in photography since the 1960s. Instead of providing clear and direct images, Şakir Eczacıbaşı's photographs reflect a reality that gradually becomes more ambiguous and disappears.
