TEXT

The photo exhibition titled "Sarajevo" can be viewed at Millî Reasürans Art Gallery from January 11 to February 10, 2007.

Ali Arif Ersen, born in Istanbul in 1958, brings back to memory the tragedy of Sarajevo, one of the last great tragedies engraved in humanity's memory of the 20th century, with the sensitivity and responsibility of an artist, ten years later: "Sarajevo."

Although he studied painting at Istanbul DGSA Painting Department from 1978 to 1985, Ali Arif Ersen focused on photography in his works. In 2001, he published his impressions of the USA in a book titled "Fotografi USA." In 2002, as part of the "Reflections/Dream Traces" series of Yapı Kredi Publications, he prepared illustrations for Tomris Uyar's latest book "Güzel Yazı Defteri," a long story. He then continued his impressions of Latin American cities with the books "Fotografi Havana" (2003) and "Fotografi Buenos Aires" (2004). In 2004, a photo exhibition titled "Tres Americas" was held at Millî Reasürans Art Gallery, and a catalog of the exhibition was published.

Reha Arcan interprets Ali Arif Ersen's Sarajevo photographs as follows: "There is very little human element in the Sarajevo photographs. Because the artist presents the decay of humanity in his photographs with strong images. The abstract areas are full of traces and clues. In the background, Ali Arif Ersen's unity with painting and graphics is felt. These photographs are entirely calculated and form a whole that will not allow any coincidence. Throughout the exhibition, the viewer is entirely included in this photographic narrative. Even if the viewer does not know the name of the exhibition, they find themselves intertwined with strange images in a surreal world. What remains of Sarajevo is narrated with the rare, included image of a little girl in the photograph."

The exhibition can be viewed at Millî Reasürans Art Gallery from January 11 to February 10, 2007
