Photographers Can Altay, Ani Çelik Arevyan, Burcu Aksoy, Arif Aşçı, Banu Cennetoğlu, Orhan Cem Çetin, Zekai Demir, Hasan Deniz, Ahmet Elhan, Cemal Endem, Murat Germen, Ara Güler, Sıtkı Kösemen, Nevzat Sayın, Ahmet Sel, Serkan Taycan, Nazif Topçuoğlu, Özcan Yurdalan all came together and took one shot of KoÇo for giving support to Ali Arif Ersen. Curated by Serhan Ada, the exhibition will run from June 7, August 31 at Milli Reasürans Art Gallery.

Because of the locked in syndrome, Ali Arif Ersen is bed ridden since the last eight years. He is communicating with the world through eye movement. He blinks his left eye as if to say 'yes, ok' to his mother, friends, anyone around him. By controlling with his head a lazer pointer adapted on the right side of his glasses, he chooses letters on an alphabet board to make a word in order to get across his instant wishes, sometimes asking hard questions sometimes sharing memories of his past. He keeps going on listening to music or someone who reads him a book. He doesnt lose track of what goes on in the world. A short laughter sometimes is a sign for that.

For this project, Ali was asked what he would shoot if he was to use his camera tomorrow.

Without hesitating a minute he wrote on the board 'K-O-Ç-O'. Without making any detailed comments....as if he was inviting his friends participating in the project not for taking photographs but for a dinner party where everyone eats, chats and drinks together. No limitations, no conditions so the project was named by itself: 'Ali's Koço'.

All the photographers invited to take this one shot immediately volunteered for this project. Then came the practical stuff like how to move forward, the schedule etc...The ones who could spare time, came to meet at Koço for a dinner to talk about the project.

This exhibition is a result of a volunteer and collective sharing of eighteen photographers who joined their friend's invitation with one photograph. Offering the viewer diverse styles and technics in one place, by showcasing different approaches to the same theme, the exhibition brings together significant names in Turkish photography.

Starting from June 7th, the exhibition 'Ali's Koço' will run the whole summer at Milli Reasürans Art Gallery. The entire income from this exhibition will be granted to Ali Arif Ersen.
